Use the Nordic Swan Ecolabel to strengthen your green communication

According to the proposal for the Green Claims Directive, consumer information must be provided on a solid, factual and scientific basis – and with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, companies will still be able to communicate about environmental and sustainability measures based on the requirements of the label.

The rules will complement the new directive on strengthening the role of consumers in the green transition, which, unlike the Green Claims Directive, has already been adopted and must be implemented in Swedish law by March 2026.

The Consumer Protection Directive contains a general prohibition on generic environmental claims, such as 'environmental', 'climate-friendly', 'green', 'environmentally correct' and so on. However, such claims can be used in specific cases – for example, when they are supported by a relevant officially recognised eco-label, including the Nordic Swan, as the Directive recognises officially recognised Type I eco-labels as excellent for environmental performance.
